World Metrology Day 2023 Celebrates 'Measurements Supporting Global Food System'

May 9, 2023 - According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 30 million children suffer acute malnutrition with eight million of those severely wasted. World Metrology Day 2023 celebrates the science of measurement by bringing attention to the increasing challenges of climate change and the global distribution of food and the role accurate measurement plays in improving the food chain.
 
"It's no secret that nutrition, food security, and food safety are all interconnected,” said Jeff Gust, chief corporate metrologist for Fluke Corporation. “Accurate measurements can help address the challenges the global food system faces by helping to improve food safety, nutrition, and even yield. Fluke is proud to support World Metrology Day and celebrate the work of metrologists around the world who are collaborating with food testing laboratories to literally save lives through good measurements.”
 
World Metrology Day is an annual celebration of the signature of the Metre Convention on May 20, 1875 by representatives of seventeen nations. The Convention set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and in its industrial, commercial, and societal applications. The original aim of the Metre Convention — the world-wide uniformity of measurement — remains as important today as it was in 1875.
 
Leading up to Metrology Day 2023, Jeff Gust will be hosting the webinar “Exploring the Art and Science of Measurement: A Metrology Panel Discussion” on May 11 at 8:00am Pacific Time. The webinar will explore the latest trends and innovations in measurement.
