March 13, 2023 - In 2012, SICK introduced the first ultrasonic gas flow meter for natural gas distribution. Now, thousands of installations later, SICK has launched a new ultrasonic gas meter dedicated to high-pressure applications in natural gas distribution and midstream measurement systems.
With the FLOWSIC550, SICK expands its portfolio and offers a suitable solution for small nominal diameters and compact installations in the high-pressure range. This is especially helpful at natural gas distribution sites and transmission systems. Customers at town border stations and city gate stations will also find the FLOWSIC550 particularly helpful.
Easy and simple operation for numerous applications
With the use of ultrasound technology and the absence of mechanical components, the FLOWSIC550 offers clear cost advantages over conventional turbine and rotary displacement meters. When utilized in transfer and measuring stations, FLOWSIC550 ensures a continuous and blockage free gas supply.
The FLOWSIC550 is a high-performance meter for operating pressures up to 1480 psi. It is a multi-path meter with integrated flow conditioning, suitable for compact meter stations. Much like its predecessor the FLOWSIC500 which is suitable up to 20 bar / 290 psi, the FLOWSIC550 can also be fully battery powered for up to five years and can be equipped with the optional volume correction function.
Simple, cost-effective installation and integration
The FLOWSIC550 is not only easy to install, but also compatible with turbine gas meters. Therefore, it can easily be integrated in existing most compact measuring installations. Gas flow measurement and volume correction have the same goal: providing a precise measurement of the quantity of gas supplied.
The FLOWSIC500 combines all functions into one device thereby helping to save on installation costs and reducing the number of interfaces. The integrated volume corrector supports all typical correction algorithms, such as SGERG88, AGA 8, and AGA NX-19.
Integration with FLOWgate operating software
SICK offers FLOWgate user software for a user-friendly and results-oriented solution for all life cycle management tasks of the FLOWSIC550. With its wizards for calibration, commissioning, and device diagnostics, it supports the almost maintenance free operation of the gas flow meter and can also be used to remotely monitor the meter.
The Device Manager shows all registered devices and offers device grouping and a convenient data backup function. Thanks to the integrated database, you can access the stored data anytime–offline or online.
The introduction of the FLOWSIC550 expands SICK’s product portfolio options for ultrasonic meters and offers its customers another sophisticated and reliable solution. It provides compressor fuel gas measurement, high-pressure industrial gas measurement, and works well in applications where a continuous gas supply must be ensured.
